Bare Bones: the essentials of physical embodiment

Open Floor Movement Practice workshop with Aileen Reid and Subhanaya

Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th February 2026, Edinburgh

In deep winter the land and weather can feel unchanging. Our own dance - and our lives - can feel much the same. Week in, week out, the same patterns of life, the same patterns of movement. Until we can begin to doubt the dance itself…

Yet our bones and bodies hold another truth. In the marrow of us, life is continually regenerating. Our bones are literally bringing into being the lifeblood that renews our whole system and enables all that we do — and that we might do.

In this weekend in the depths of winter we’ll rekindle our love of being in movement and music — exploring the potential for generating new movement, finding fresh expression in the body, and maybe even surprising ourselves with new ways of loving life.

Over the weekend you will have the opportunity to:

  • access and move different parts of your body in your dance

  • bring the whole of your moving body into your dance

  • move from inner impulse and in response to external guidance or stimulus

  • find an expanded sense of mobility and spatial awareness

  • discover an awareness of different dimensions of embodiment - solo, in connection, with a group and within a broader field of living experience

  • learn an embodied understanding of the core movement resources of Open Floor

What we discover in movement ripples into life. Renewal often hides beneath the surface of habit, just waiting to be noticed.

The workshop is open to people aged 18+. Beginners or experienced dancers welcome. The workshop is a suggested pre-requisite for the Open Floor teacher training.

We recommend that you’ve been to at least one conscious dance class before (e.g. Open Floor, 5Rhythms, Movement Medicine). If you have any questions please get in touch.
